Welcome to Year 2!
Mrs Stokes and Miss Craner and Mrs Ali are looking forward to an excting year.
During the year we will be developing our skills as writers as we focus our understanding on improving our sentences using a range of grammatical features. We will apply these features to a range of genres such as stories, letters, diary entries and non-chronological reports. Alongside this, we will focus on accurate spelling of common words and words with specific spelling patterns as well as the use of neat, legible handwriting.
You can support your child at home by asking them to write for a range of purposes and practising their spelling and handwriting regularly.
As readers, we will explore a variety of texts and enjoy sharing class books as well as individual reading books. We will be working on the development of our comprehension skills by answering more challenging questions about what we have read.
To support your child at home, read with them at least 3 times a week and discuss what they have read.As their independence in reading improves it is still important for them to hear reading role models at home, so continue to read to your child as often as you can.
To support them at home, encourage your child to practise their counting skills and learn their times tables.
The foundation subjects will be taught through half termly topics, details of which can be found below:
