I qualified as an NNEB Nursery Nurse at Burton College 30 years ago and have worked in a variety of child and social care and educational settings since then. For the past 17 years I have worked at Burton and South Derbyshire College as a lecturer, assessor and internal Quality Assurer in a wide range of roles and now teach, assess and IQA Teaching Assistants, Early Years Educators and Childminders across a wide range of educational and early years settings in Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire. I also deliver Community courses focusing on Resilience and Positive Parenting in a number of settings. I have trained Teaching Assistants and Lunchtime Supervisors at Grange as well as delivering Parenting courses which has enabled me to build good relationships with staff and develop an understanding of what makes Grange such an excellent school. I look forward to supporting the children and staff in my role as co-opted governor.

Vice Chair of Governors - Mrs Shelagh McKiernan

I was formerly a Governor at William Shrewsbury prior to the formation of the Academy and I was previously a Governor at my children’s primary school in Somerset. I am an elected local Councillor for Shobnall Ward on East Staffs Borough Council. Originally from the Wirral, I moved to Burton in 2002. My first job was in research at Unilever, but then spent many years in the NHS in Service Improvement, Performance Management and Commissioning. I gained a HND in Applied Biology and later on an OU degree in HealthCare Quality. I believe in lifelong learning. I have 2 Welsh granddaughters of primary school age so am very interested in how education is delivered in different areas and strategies for improving from year to year. My sister and sister in law work as Teaching Assistants so am always learning how it feels at the sharp end!

I became Headteacher of Grange Infants School in January 2015. I strongly believe every child has the right to a good education and it is my role to ensure they receive it.
As Headteacher, I am responsible for the organisation, management and control of the school. I ensure Governors and Trustees are aware of all the main aspects of school life and provide them with enough information to fulfil their statutory responsibilities.
I find the Governing body to be extremely hardworking and supportive but, at the same time, prepared to rigorously challenge and question Senior Leaders about school improvement and development.

Community Governor - Miss Sarah Drew

I grew up in a family of teachers, in fact my mother taught infants, and I gained a strong belief in the power of education from my parents. I studied English and Classics at the University of Nottingham, graduating in 1997, and I started my career in publishing. In 2005 I moved into the further education (FE) sector and have worked in colleges ever since, progressing into a series of management roles. I completed post graduate studies in business and marketing in 2008.
I have been a senior leader at BSDC since 2012, with responsibilities for aspects of funding, external engagement and corporate relations. I have also undertaken teacher training in post 16 education and taught English to international students in annual summer school.
I am particularly interested in the area of children’s literacy and reading.

Staff Governor - Mrs Sharon Middleton
Subjects: Art, Design Techonology
My name is Sharon Middleton and I am both a Governor & Family Support Worker here at Grange. Over the past twenty one years I have provided assistance to families and pupils dealing with various problems. My involvement varies from providing emotional support to families, managing referal to professional services and uttilising community resources. I help pupils by assessing their family needs, supporting language barriers, developing intervention plans, supporting home management situations, collaborating with healthcare professionals and social workers, adhering to equality and diversity policies to prevent families from meeting crisis situations. I thrive from being a member of the Grange team and love to support pupils, their families and staff where possible.
