Urgent re Fire in Burton

 Parents/Carers

After an urgent briefing from Staffordshire County Council this afternoon we have been informed of a plume of smoke over the Burton area due to a large fire at the Rumenco factory in Derby Road.  The plume could potentially contain a chemical called calcium oxide which could be harmful to people with breathing difficulties or asthma and should not come into contact with skin due to possible irritation or burns.

The whole of Burton and the area to the south of Burton is affected as the wind is blowing the plume in this direction.  You are asked to try and avoid the plume wherever possible and not to walk or stand beneath it.  Derby Road has been closed from the A38 to its junction with Hawkins Lane.

Official advice is that you should come and collect your children by car if possible, with the windows shut and the air con off, but this will obviously mean a lot of congestion around school so please park responsibly and leave as soon as you have collected your child.

COLLECTION TODAY THURSDAY 31 MARCH 2022:

RECEPTION AND YEAR 1:  PLEASE COME AND COLLECTION YOUR CHILDREN AT 2.45PM

NURSERY PM AND YEAR 2:  PLEASE COME AND COLLECT YOUR CHILDREN AT 3PM

The aim of this is to ensure that large groups of our parents/carers and children are not waiting outside of school for long periods of time.  Year 2, if you have siblings in other classes please collect at the earlier time of 2:45pm.  Please do not panic if you cannot get here for the earlier time but remember the aim is to ensure you are not waiting outside for long periods.

Once home, official advice is to remain at home with doors and windows closed.

At present we believe school will be open tomorrow, but we will keep you informed.
