Safeguarding

At Grange School, safeguarding is not just a policy—it is a culture. Safeguarding is the most important responsibility we hold as a school. Every member of staff, from teachers and support staff to office and lunchtime staff, is trained to recognise concerns, respond appropriately and act swiftly when a child needs help. We follow national guidance from Keeping Children Safe in Education and work closely with external agencies to ensure children receive the right support at the right time.

Our safeguarding approach includes:

A dedicated Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL - Mrs Cox) and Deputy DSLs (Mrs Spencer and Mrs Keay) who oversee all safeguarding matters.
Clear systems for reporting concerns, monitoring pupil records, contacting external agencies, and immediate escalation where needed.
Regular staff training so that all adults understand signs of abuse, harm, neglect, online risks and emotional distress.
Strong partnerships with families, ensuring communication is open, supportive and centred on the child.
A curriculum that teaches children how to stay safe, recognise unsafe situations and know who to talk to.

We are also an Operation Encompass school.

Operation Encompass (Home : Operation Encompass) is a national initiative that supports children who may have been affected by domestic incidents. When the police attend an incident where a child is present or linked, they will inform the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead, usually before the start of the next school day. This allows us to provide immediate, confidential and appropriate support for the child. No details of the incident are shared—only that there has been a safeguarding concern. This ensures we can offer understanding, stability and care for any child who may need it.

Being an Operation Encompass school strengthens our commitment to safeguarding and ensures that children receive timely emotional support when it matters most.
