Vice Chair of Governors - Mrs Shelagh McKiernan

I am a newly appointed Governor, formerly a Governor at William Shrewsbury prior to the formation of the Academy. I was previously a Governor at my children’s primary school in Somerset. I am an elected local Councillor for Shobnall Ward on East Staffs Borough Council. Originally from the Wirral, I moved to Burton in 2002. My first job was in research at Unilever, but then spent many years in the NHS in Service Improvement, Performance Management and Commissioning. I gained a HND in Applied Biology and later on an OU degree in HealthCare Quality. I believe in lifelong learning. I have 2 Welsh granddaughters of primary school age so am very interested in how education is delivered in different areas and strategies for improving from year to year. My sister and sister in law work as Teaching Assistants so am always learning how it feels at the sharp end!

At Grange I am a Science Link governor and one of the two Vice-Chairs.

Headteacher - Miss Joanne Snook

Attending the following committees: Finance, Staffing & Premises; Teaching & Learning and The Data Group.

I became Headteacher of Grange Infants School in January 2015. I  strongly believe every child has the right to a good education and it is my role to ensure they receive it.
As Headteacher, I am responsible for the organisation, management and control of the school. I ensure Governors are aware of all the main aspects of school life and provide them with enough information to fulfil their statutory responsibilities.
I find the Governing body to be extremely hardworking and supportive but, at the same time, prepared to rigorously challenge and question Senior Leaders about school improvement and development.

I qualified as an NNEB Nursery Nurse at Burton College 30 years ago and have worked in a variety of child and social care and educational settings since then. For the past 17 years I have worked at Burton and South Derbyshire College as a lecturer, assessor and internal Quality Assurer in a wide range of roles and now teach, assess and IQA Teaching Assistants, Early Years Educators and Childminders across a wide range of educational and early years settings in Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire. I also deliver Community courses focusing on Resilience and Positive Parenting in a number of settings. I have trained Teaching Assistants and Lunchtime Supervisors at Grange as well as delivering Parenting courses which has enabled me to build good relationships with staff and develop an understanding of what makes Grange such an excellent school. I look forward to supporting the children and staff in my role as co-opted governor.

Mrs Brenda Cowley

Attending the following Committees – Teaching & Learning Committee.

Link Governor for: Art, Design & Technology

I have worked in Education for the past 30 years and originally trained as a Further  Education tutor for Burton College after completing a Degree. Over the past years  I worked  in the their Art & Drama Department, Hair and Beauty and most recently as a Family  learning tutor, travelling to various primary schools in the area. Grange Street School was  always one of my favourite locations when working with parents and their children. A child’s  love of learning should be encouraged and parents play a huge role in this.

I currently work at the Paget High school as a Curriculum TA in Business, ICT and Health & Social care, providing cover for lessons within this area. Secondary Education is demanding but can be vocationally satisfying.

I have now been given the opportunity to work with Grange Street School using my experience to support the Head teacher in important decision making. I look forward to this new challenge.

Term of office expiry: 31/12/2019

Ms Rebecca Elson

Attending the following committees - Finance, Staffing & Premises Committee

Link Governor for: Assessment & Pupil Progress in Literacy

I was educated locally and have had links with the Grange School since I managed a number of regeneration programmes for East Staffordshire Borough Council from 2004 to 2009 – investing into the school through Burton Advantage Schools.  I have a degree in English and a real passion for literacy hence my role as link governor for it.  I also run my own limited company so I’m able to be a voice for the private sector on the Board of Governors; a role I’m absolutely committed to and take very seriously.

Mrs Helen Dyche  - Parent Governor

Originally from Sheffield, I moved to Burton in 2010. I am a stay at home Mother to Matilda in Reception and Charlotte who will join the Nursery in 2020.

I have a Business Degree and a background in Management and Finance.
